I developed my critical analysis skills and have become a confident public speaker
What made you want to study your course?
I chose to study biomedical science as I wanted to understand more about the human body, and future approaches in medicine such as stem cell therapy. I also wanted to have the opportunity to complete laboratory research projects.
What made you decide to study at the University of 91Ö±²¥?
I decided to study at the University of 91Ö±²¥ due to the university’s great reputation in biomedical research, and the opportunities the department granted students, such as human body dissection and working in world-class research laboratories. The campus and student union were also great, and it seemed like there was a lot of support for students.
What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?
I most enjoyed my fourth year research project, where I got to work full time in a laboratory alongside a great team of researchers. I learnt a variety of complex and relevant techniques, and was able to contribute to the field of research. It was a great insight into a career in research, and was very interesting throughout.
What skills have you developed during your course?
During my course, I have significantly improved in my critical analysis skills due to the wide variety of papers analysed throughout various modules. I have also become a much more confident public speaker following lots of opportunities to present to staff and students, particularly in my fourth year. As well as this, I have developed more niche skills such as laboratory techniques, including in-situ hybridisation, CRISPR-cas9 mutagenesis and PCR.
What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course at 91Ö±²¥?
I would recommend studying Biomedical Science at the University of 91Ö±²¥. The opportunities granted are second to none, and the course attracts a lot of students meaning it is also very sociable and a great place to make new friends. If you are considering a career in research, it is a great university to gain some experience and be guided by excellent researchers.
What are you planning to do after your degree?
I am beginning the government Fast Stream programme in 2022 as a statistician.
