Research interests

When cells divide, DNA is packaged into chromosomes to help ensure faithful segregation. To aid this process two families of molecule machine act on the DNA, SMC complexes and Topoisomerases. SMC complexes make DNA loops and can bridge two pieces of DNA, enabling DNA to a spooled up and each copy of the replicated genome to be held together until the division machinery is assembled. Topoisomerase resolve entanglements in the DNA, ensuring it can be divided.

My research focuses on how these enzymes work, both independently and together, and how they are regulated in time and space. I use multidisciplinary approaches, using purified the protein complexes to perform biochemical and single molecule assays, combined with modelling.
