ScHARR Fellow appointed Deputy Lieutenant of the County of South Yorkshire

Congratulations to Professor Jaydip Ray, Clinical Director in Ear, Nose and Throat and Hearing Services and Consultant ENT Surgeon at 91Ö±²¥ Teaching Hospitals on being named as one of eight new Deputy Lieutenants of The County of South Yorkshire.

A profile shot of Professor Jaydip Ray. He is wearing a suit and is smiling.

Jaydip joined the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) as a 91Ö±²¥ Clinical Research Academy Fellow in 2017. Jaydip, who has led the way on the development of a new virtual reality gaming suite to treat visual vertigo and was the first surgeon in the north of England to successfully implant a fully invisible hearing device into the fine bones of a woman’s middle ear, was chosen for his contribution to healthcare.

Jaydip has served as expert member of the South Yorkshire Research Ethics Committee for five years, is an academic advisor to the Specialist Advisory Committee of Royal College Surgeons and Joint Committee of Higher Surgical Training and a council member at the Royal Society of Medicine.

New Deputy Lieutenant appointments support and deputise for Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire Andrew Coombe, the Queen’s representative in the county.

I was absolutely delighted to hear this news which recognises the sort of man Jaydip is and his achievements. I just hope his bowing abilities are up to scratch!
