- Profile
-
I am Interim Director Executive and Professional Education and have over 28 years of experience in manufacturing industries, initially as an apprentice millwright, before progressing through engineering maintenance roles in the petro-chem and pharmaceutical sectors.
I moved across to the food sector in a management role in my early thirties and developed a career in operations fields including supply chain management, warehousing, purchasing and logistics over an 11 year period.
My civic roles supporting the wider aims of the University include holding a directorship of a national charity which fights food poverty and food insecurity whilst reducing food waste. We achieve this through interventions and reprovisioning, saving good food from going to waste and redistributing it to frontline charities. I see this role as a natural extension to my PhD (2011) which considered the application of the Theory of Constraints in the development of more sustainable and resource efficient local food supply chains.
I also sit on a regional freight partnership group, as well as being I am an active member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport.
As part of my move to 91Ö±²¥ University I have recently assisted with bid writing with the 91Ö±²¥ Real Junk Food Project and I have also become involved with a Circular Economy funded project as part of the University's Sustainable Food Futures initiative.
I have served as a global reviewer for the recently Chopra & Meindl’s ‘Supply Chain Management: Strategy, Planning and Operation’, I currently sit on an advisory board to Pearson Publishing undertaking a review of Operations Management teaching and materials support provision.I hold two external examiner subject specialist roles at Roehampton and Lincoln Universities, and my research was selected as part of Northumbria University’s Research Excellence Framework submission for 2014 and subsequently rated at 4*.
My current research interest include the emerging roles of data enabled food value chains, quality management in the transport sector, adapted management science tools for equal participatory and inclusive learning, addressing sub-optimisation in reverse logistics flows and increasing values in food localisation.
