The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is an ambitious, collegiate and inclusive community of academic staff, researchers and professional services staff and we're looking for excellent new staff to join us.
Introduction from the Head of School
鈥淭he School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering belongs to the prestigious Faculty of Engineering, which is one of the largest academic communities of engineers in the UK, ranked joint 1st in the UK for Research Environment in the last Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). Our world-class research, innovation and education, represented by 5 thematic areas, directly support global societal and economic challenges.
We are home to several national institutes and centres (e.g. National Epitaxy Facility, The National 6G Radio Systems Facility, two Rolls-Royce University Technology Centres). We strive to conduct fundamental research that supports the frontier of engineering discovery, as well as translational research with impact at scale.
We endeavour to provide a research-led, student-centred learning experience, strongly supporting all students to realise their full potential. Our students develop knowledge, technical skills and professional competencies during their studies as potential engineering leaders who will make a positive impact on society and the world we live in.鈥

I started my job in January 2020, just two months before the Covid-19 lockdown. My colleagues have been most welcoming and helped me settle into the new environment in these unprecedented circumstances. I have had many opportunities to contribute to the operations of the school, while at the same time being able to progress my research and teaching. The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is friendly and one can easily find their place.

Professor of Medical Robotics
There is a supportive culture amongst colleagues and from my experience, all staff will give others the time of day and are interested in their viewpoints. I also really appreciate the flexibility that the University offers to staff, balancing home life with work can be tricky, especially with young children. Having options for both hybrid and flexible working means that I can be present for my family without having to make major compromises or changes to my role and career.
