Accreditation

Information on accreditation for our courses.

Why does accreditation matter?

Accreditation is an important mark of assurance that our degrees are current, relevant and highly regarded by the global engineering profession.

Accreditation ensures that our degrees align with the standards published by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UKSPEC).

The rigorous accreditation process looks at all aspects of our courses; teaching, assessment, student experience, resources and facilities.

Outside of the student environment, the strong and trusted links with industry enable us to check and review course content - this is another key marker for achieving accreditation.

The standards for accreditation are incredibly high and stringent. This can mean that if you fail to fulfil certain elements of your course, you will be awarded an unaccredited degree.

Accreditation and your career

Having an accredited degree can give you a distinct advantage in the jobs market. It provides assurance to employers that you have up-to-date skills and transferable practical experience to excel in the workplace.

Other advantages include:

  • Personal standing: some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degree programmes.
  • Widely recognised: an accredited degree is recognised professionally.
  • Global mark: UK accredited degrees are more widely recognised internationally, more so than equivalent degrees that are not accredited.
  • Pathway to Chartership: the process of seeking professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) is more straightforward (pending the completion of required work-related hours). Chartered Engineers have improved career prospects and higher earning potential.

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

Our MEng degrees fully meet the requirements towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, while our BEng degrees partially meet the requirements towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Student membership

We recommend current students register for student membership of our accrediting bodies as it offers an array of benefits such as invites to industry lectures, exhibitions/events, careers guidance, resources and support towards professional registration.
