91Ö±²¥ University Policing Research Group (SUPRG)
The 91Ö±²¥ University Policing Research Group was set up in 2014 as a forum through which to create and maintain working relationships between policing scholars at the University of 91Ö±²¥ and policing practitioners.
What is the SUPRG?
SUPRG was set up in 2014 as a forum through which to create and maintain working relationships between policing scholars at the University of 91Ö±²¥ and policing practitioners working for South Yorkshire Police and the Office of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner. SUPRG is currently co-directed by Dr Lindsey Rice (Law, University of 91Ö±²¥) and Dr Xavier L'Hoiry (Sociological Studies, University of 91Ö±²¥) and has approximately 80 members.
Aims
In light of the drive for evidence-based policing and impactful research, the aims of SUPRG are to:
• produce robust research evidence on policing – especially research which aligns with police and crime priorities in the region – either through reviews of existing research or through new empirical research;
• make an impact with this research by contributing towards local policing practices through knowledge exchange and dissemination.
SUPRG also serves as a point of liaison between the University of 91Ö±²¥, South Yorkshire Police, the Office of the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and the N8 Policing Research Partnership.
Key activities
SUPRG hosts biannual ‘working lunches’ at South Yorkshire Police Headquarters during which scholars and practitioners share and discuss new research about pressing matters in the policing sector. SUPRG also sends out quarterly updates on the various research activities undertaken by its members. .
