We want to do everything we can to ensure that all students living with us are safe, comfortable and happy in their accommodation. We work closely with the University’s Disability and Dyslexia Support Service (DDSS) to meet disabled students' specific accommodation requirements.

If you are a disabled student you can contact the DDSS by email to discuss support for your studies at disability.info@sheffield.ac.uk

When applying for University accommodation you will be asked during the application process if you require any disability related room adaptations.  At this point, we will contact you directly to discuss your requirements, and seek additional information if required. We will then begin the process of finding accommodation that is suitable for you.

Read our full Disabled Student Guidelines for Accommodation here.

The accommodation you need due to your disability may be more expensive than standard student accommodation because of your condition or impairment. If you will find it difficult to afford this difference in cost then you can contact DDSS - disability.info@sheffield.ac.uk to discuss whether you are eligible for a reduction in your higher cost rent.

If you have further questions about how the University of 91Ö±²¥ accommodation team can support you in booking the accommodation that you need, please contact accommodationoffice@sheffield.ac.uk

Support Options

We know that each disabled individual will have different needs and require varied levels of support. Your situation will be assessed individually, and we’ll work with you to ensure we provide you with what you need to be comfortable and safe in our accommodation. The following are just some of the things we can offer that may help with different aspects of life.

Room Adaptations

We have a number of wheelchair accessible rooms available across both Ranmoor, Endcliffe & City, but we can also provide room adaptations to meet individual needs. We encourage those that need a wheelchair accessible room to apply as early as possible.

Room adaptations include (but are not limited to) things such as providing medical fridges, shower stools or providing you with a .

Pre-arrival Viewings

Depending on your circumstances and the nature of your needs we may invite you for an appointment to discuss your adaptation requirements or view your room before move-in. This can be in-person or virtually, and would happen so that we can ensure all your needs are met, and provide some insight and peace of mind for you.

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans

Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) are offered to students who require assistance during emergency evacuations. This will identify any special arrangements or assistance required by an individual to ensure their safety in the event of an evacuation.

PEEP measures may include an alternative place of refuge, a vibrating pillow or a flashing alarm indicator. Every case is assessed on an individual basis, and arrangements are made in line with requirements declared by students.

Students should indicate they require a PEEP when applying for accommodation or when completing the e-Induction prior to arrival. Students will be contacted directly prior to moving in to discuss the PEEP.  Accommodation Services staff will then contact the student once they have moved in to assess the PEEP and make any amends that may be required.  If you/a student later require a PEEP due to a change in circumstances at any point please contact the Accommodation Office so a PEEP can be put in place.

Quieter Accommodation

When applying  you can set quieter accommodation as your preference. Students living in quieter accommodation are expected to work with other residents to keep the noise levels low. Quieter accommodation blocks are situated across our Ranmoor/ Endcliffe site.

Please note that we cannot guarantee our quieter accommodation will be completely free of any external noise or occasional disruption. However our on-site security team are available 24/7. You can also reach out to your Residence Life Mentor if you require any support to facilitate conversations with your flatmates regarding noise, or any other issues you may encounter.

Places in quieter accommodation are subject to availability.

Alternative Arrival Dates

If required, you may be offered the option to move into your accommodation at an alternative time. This could be a day early, or later, depending on the block you’re moving into.

An alternative arrival time means that you can avoid the business typically associated with arrivals weekend, as the environment will be quieter and calmer, and you can take more time unloading vehicles, organising your space and settling in.

Apply for 2025/26

Applications are now open for students that have firmed their offer for 2025/26.
