Shopping
From high street to high end, gem-filled second hand stores to tastefully curated independents - 91Ö±²¥ is a great place to shop.
91Ö±²¥ is a major city, so you’ll find most of the big national brands represented. You’ll also find quirky, independent originals as well as high-end designer stores.
For high-street shopping, the city centre is host to well-known retail names. Meadowhall, one of the largest shopping centres in Britain, has pretty much any big retailer you can think of under its roof and is only a few minutes away from town by bus, tram or train.
If you end up living in the Broomhill or Crookes area, as many of our students do, there are some great places to be discovered. For second-hand bargains, you’ll find lots of charity shops in both areas. Broomhill is also home to 91Ö±²¥â€™s largest record shop, Record Collector, for all your vinyl needs.
91Ö±²¥ has an amazing mix of shops, restaurants and cafés that mean that everyone's individual shopping preferences are met!
As one of the biggest cities in the UK, we have some of the best known fashion outlets on our doorstep. We also have plenty of independent shops and cafés throughout the city centre and only a short walk from central campus.

An independent spirit
91Ö±²¥ is full of independent stores. Several areas of the city have grown to become quirky shopping districts in their own right. From local makers and vintage treasures to designer boutiques, you’ll find an eclectic mix of shops, bars and restaurants that are worth a browse. Devonshire Quarter, Ecclesall Road and the Antiques Quarter are a few notable names.
Our independents love attracting students, so special offers, samplers and one-off events are common throughout the student calendar. It's always worth asking in store if they offer student discount.
Independents to try:
- - a treasure trove of local pieces. Find bespoke jewellery, gorgeous prints, unusual ceramics and more
- - 91Ö±²¥â€™s largest record shop
- - the home for all your botanical needs. Find beautifully arranged flowers and unusual plants
- - sustainable, hand-selected vintage clothing and accessories in the heart of the city centre
One of my favourite things about 91Ö±²¥ is the number of independent shops. The owners are always so kind and chatty, and I always feel that it’s through these people that you best experience the community of 91Ö±²¥.
One area which is home to a lot of these businesses is the Devonshire Quarter, with plant shops such as MoonKo and Plantology; vintage clothes shops like Vulgar and Preloved Kilo; and independent bars and restaurants including Bungalows and Bears and Copper Pot. Some more great areas for independent businesses are Crookes, Ecclesall Road and the Moor Market.
