Understanding and changing health and environmental behaviour
My research focuses on understanding why people do (or do not) engage in different behaviours, and using this knowledge to develop and evaluate behaviour change techniques to promote positive social, health and environmental behaviours. My research involves both primary empirical research and also meta-analytic techniques.
I am currently the behaviour change lead on , a £3 million interdisciplinary research consortium on understanding and improving indoor air quality, funded by the UKRI SPF Clean Air Programme. Previously, I was the behaviour change lead on two interdisciplinary research projects on technical and behavioural barriers to ventilation in the hospitality sector, funded by the Health and Safety Executive’s , and 91Ö±²¥ City Council. I was also involved in research on single-use plastics, as part of the UKRI-funded interdisciplinary research programme .
I am a member of the Healthy Lifespan Institute, The Institute for Sustainable Food and , an interdisciplinary network of researchers working on projects relating to air quality and pollution.
Understanding and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
My research revolves around understanding and overcoming barriers to inclusion, and exploring strategies for reducing stereotyping and prejudice. I am currently Co-I on a research project on understanding and tackling the barriers to employment experienced by autistic adults (2023-2024), funded by the Colt Foundation. I’m particularly interested in interventions based on intergroup contact, including imagined and virtual contact, and in the effects of interpersonal confrontations of prejudice. I am also interested in the effects of weight stigma on health and wellbeing. I am part of the 91Ö±²¥ Inequalities Researchers’ Network.
