Timetables
Timetable information for Languages for All courses.
Current timetables
Timetables are provisional as our taught sessions are offered subject to viability of student numbers and availability of staff. These will be confirmed at the start of the semester.
Teaching is mainly delivered through a two-hour seminar and a one-hour language tutorial, however some modules have more contact hours and follow a slightly different structure. All of our teaching will be delivered in person and will be in seminar groups of up to 23 students and tutorial groups of up to 15 students.

Semester and examination dates
-
The MLTC follows the University of 91Ö±²¥'s two-semester structure, the dates of which are available on their Current and Future Semester Dates page.
By September of each academic year, you should be able to see that the timetables have been updated, as well as the start dates for the module.
In Autumn semester, teaching begins in Week 1 and we have a reading week (where there is no teaching) in week 7.
In Spring semester, teaching begins in Week 1 for all modules apart from Beginner 1 modules for British Sign Language, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Arabic - teaching for these modules begins in week 2. There is no reading week in Semester 2.
Teaching originally scheduled during a bank holiday Monday will be re-scheduled or alternative arrangements will be made if this is not possible.
Exams:
For details of the University's exam periods, please follow this link.
Examinations can be scheduled at any time between 09:00 and 17:30 Monday to Saturday during the examination period. The exact date of individual exams is usually published by the University's Student Examinations Team one month before the start of the examination period. The dates of examinations cannot be changed.

Your course structure
-
Our teaching is mainly delivered through a two-hour seminar followed by a one-hour language tutorial, however some modules have more contact hours and follow a slightly different structure.
Your tutorial is intended as consolidation of the work done in your seminar. Therefore, your tutorial must run AFTER the seminar , i.e. either later the same day or later in the week. You cannot, for instance, attend a seminar on Thursdays and a tutorial on Wednesdays.
Some of our degree study specific modules/languages have four or five contact hours that are split into two seminars and a tutorial, and so these will follow a slightly different structure. Please see the individual language timetable pages for information regarding specific modules.
All of our taught sessions will be delivered in person and will be in seminar groups of up to 23 students and tutorial groups of up to 15 students.

Viewing your timetable
-
Timetables for the autumn semester are finalised in September, and your modules should appear on your timetable towards the start of the semester. Do not worry if they do not appear from the first week of your course - they can take some time. If you are unsure when or where your sessions will take place, this will be likely to be shown elsewhere, such as via an email from your tutor or via the Blackboard module site. If it is not and you are still unsure, you can email mltc@sheffield.ac.uk and we will be able to guide you.
For guidance on accessing your timetable, as well as maps and directions please visit the page.

Information on fitting and group choice for external students
-
If you are an existing student at the university, you will automatically be placed into taught sessions which fit your timetable and we will only make changes to these on a discretionary basis. For further information please refer to the section "Reporting a problem with your timetable" (below).
If you are a member of the public, a PhD student or a member of staff, you will be sent a Group Preference Form upon your successful application to one of our courses, so you will have freedom of choice concerning your timetable (subject to availability).
At Beginner levels in our more popular languages, such as French, German and Spanish, we usually endeavour to have some evening sessions that will run to suit people who are unable to make daytime sessions. However, this is not a guarantee and is less likely for our smaller languages.

Reporting a problem with your timetable
-
Incomplete timetable:
The automatic student fitting process is run at regular intervals in the weeks leading up to the start of the the semester, and it may be that your modules are not all fitted at the same time, or that you see partial scheduling - for example you may see your seminar in your timetable but not your tutorial. Please be assured that we are working to complete your timetable fitting and any outstanding taught sessions will appear in your timetable shortly afterwards.
Timetable clashes:
You will be automatically fitted to seminar and tutorial groups to fit your timetable, however if you do find that you have a clash, please complete the to let us know about this.
Please note that as full time students are expected to be available for teaching between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday, we are unable to consider requests to resolve non-teaching clashes involving recreational activities (outside Wednesday afternoons) or changes based on personal preference for other dates and times when your timetable confirms you are available at the times allocated for your language taught sessions.
Occasional clashes:
You may experience occasional clashes in your timetable, for example where there are ad hoc events scheduled or some of your modules vary from week to week. In these circumstances, we will look to fit you to the session which minimises these clashes. If you are unable to attend one of our seminars or tutorials due to a one-off clash or other reason such as illness, please notify your tutor (you do not need to complete the clash reporting form).
Please note that, unless notified otherwise, students must only attend the seminars and tutorials that are shown in their timetable.
Exceptional circumstances:
We understand that you may have responsibilities outside the University or LSP recommendations, for example, which may require a request to change groups. Please again contact us using the .
Please note that whilst we cannot guarantee we can accommodate every request due to module capacity or clashes, we will give every consideration to your request and contact you to let you know the outcome.
