Whether you're a University of 91Ö±²¥ student, a member of the public, or a member of staff, our Korean language modules are designed to improve your Korean language skills.
If you are unsure about your level, let us know when applying and we will invite you for a short placement interview to understand your previous experience and current needs.
All levels are available as either 10 or 15 credit modules. All undergraduate students, not-for-credit postgraduate students, staff and members of the public will be enrolled on 10 credit modules. Postgraduate taught students and Doctoral Development Programme students taking the module for credit will be required to complete an extra assessment, and will be enrolled onto the 15 credit module.
Beginner
You have no previous experience of learning the language.
- EAS171: Korean for non-specialists 1, Autumn (10 credits)

This module aims to provide an introduction to the Korean Language for students with no previous knowledge. The emphasis is on achieving a basic level of communication in all four language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing, which will lay the foundation for further study through classroom practice and self-directed learning. The module also aims to stimulate students’ interest in Korea and Korean society by being aware of some of the major cultural and linguistic differences. This module is for all undergraduate students, not-for-credit postgraduate students, staff and members of the public.

This module aims to provide an introduction to the Korean Language for students with no previous knowledge. This module aims to allow students with some elementary knowledge of Korean to acquire further practical language skills, in listening, reading, speaking and writing. You have some basic experience of learning the language and aren't a complete beginner.

This module aims to enable students to communicate in Korean with some prior knowledge and new knowledge of lowIntermediate grammar to acquire further practical language skills. This module will have an emphasis on communicative abilities, all four language skills – listening, reading, speaking and writing – are developed through classroom practice and self-directed learning. There will be a continued focus on developing students' awareness of the social and cultural characteristics of modern Korea and Korean culture through reading/writing/speaking/listening materials. This module is for all undergraduate students, not-for-credit postgraduate students, staff and members of the public.

This module provides Intermediate training in spoken and written Korean, oral practice for various everyday situations and essential low-Intermediate grammatical structures. It also gives a general introduction Korean society and culture. This module is for Postgraduate taught students and Doctoral Development Programme students taking the module for credit.

This module aims to further enhance students' communication skills in the four language skills - listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students are expected to communicate confidently in a wide range of social interactions including formal situations and simple professional contexts as well as reporting past events and sharing experiences. This module is for Postgraduate taught students and Doctoral Development Programme students taking the module for credit.
Intermediate
You have studied the language for one to two years, possibly have (the equivalent of) a good GCSE, and can interact with 'friendly' native speakers in common, expected situations.
