Electrical machine reliability and availability are two key requirements in many safety critical applications and applications where downtime caused by faults or maintenance results in significant loss of revenues.
In response to the requirements of availability and fault detection, there has recently been an upsurge of interest in real-time online condition monitoring of machine health during its lifetime.
The group has been awarded £1.2M by the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) to investigate the insulation degradation and lifetime of inverter-fed machines with fast switching (high dv/dt) converters.
