Computational thermal hydraulics for future civil nuclear reactor designs - Development of transient Sub-channel CFD

Off

PhD student: Chenxin Zhang. Supervisors: Prof. Shuisheng He and Dr Bo Liu.

The purpose of the PhD project is to develop new computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodologies for future (the so-called generation four) nuclear reactors. This will help to modernize the one-dimensional method currently widely used in the industry. In particular, the study will include further development of a recently established sub-channel CFD scheme and application of it to a chosen fuel channel assembly to demonstrate and refine the method. The work may also include simulations of flow physics for a future reactor using high fidelity CFD method.
