Julia Garnham (1955-2018)

Geneticist: The 91Ö±²¥ Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Julia Garnham was a Geneticist for the 91Ö±²¥ Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for over 30 years. Julia developed clinical laboratory processes that delivered the highest quality materials for clinical analysis. Julia’s work took place largely out of sight from the patients and families that she helped to save. Her work saved lives by ensuring that patients with genetic diseases including cancer and urgent prenatal cases, received fast and accurate clinical diagnoses.

For some individuals, the receiving of rapid results would have been the difference between life and death. Julia dedicated her life to helping others through her work and this also included the provision of clinical laboratory teaching and training to many NHS and University staff and students in areas of her profound skill and expertise. The Julia Garnham Centre stands as a monument to Julia’s professional achievements, her generosity, determination, and drive to help others, and her ability to lift and inspire all those around her. Julia helped our community for three decades, and our community owes her a debt of thanks that can never be repaid.
