The work includes a complete rebuild of the wall so that the temporary supports and scaffolding that have been in place for a long period of time will be removed.
The dismantling of the wall will require low level shrubs and vegetation to be cleared and one holly bush tree to be felled on the University site. We have to remove the tree in a controlled manner in order to avoid the tree falling in an uncontrolled and thus unsafe manner - which would happen when dismantling the wall.
In order to complete the works we also need to remove three cherry trees from the park. These will be replaced with cherry trees that have a 10-12cm girth. They will be in ameliorated pits which will be double staked and tied to a support. These measures are to help the replacement trees to become established as quickly as possible.
The felling of trees is always the last resort for the University. In addition to the three cherry trees being planted in the park, 7 further trees will be planted in the 2023/24 growing season in accordance with Local Authority planning requirements and University policy (for more information on how the University’s manages
