The Christmas closure period for 2024-25 is:

• Monday 23 December (University closure day)
• Tuesday 24 December (University closure day)
• Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 December (Bank holidays)
• Friday 27 December (University closure day)
• Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 December (Weekend)
• Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 December (University closure days)
• Wednesday 1 January (Bank holiday) 

Library - Information Commons

Information Commons (IC) will be open 24/7 throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

Western Bank Library and Health Sciences Library (Royal Hallamshire Hospital) will close at 17:00 on Friday 20 December and reopen at the usual opening times Thursday 2 January.

The Diamond will close at 22:00 on Friday 20 December and will reopen at 07:00 on Thursday 2 January.

Students' Union

The  building will close at 22:00 on Friday 20 December, with Bar One closing at midnight.  It will reopen at 09:00 Thursday 2 January (Coffee Revolution open from 08:30).

The Students' Union Nursery will close at 18:00 on Monday 23 December and reopen 08:00 Thursday 2 January. You can access the on the SU website.

Access to all other buildings

Access control to buildings will be on the ‘out of hours’ setting from the usual times on Friday 20 December and reopen from 08:00 on Thursday 2 January.   

Out of hours access

If you require out-of-hours access to support essential research activities during the Christmas break, please follow departmental processes and input your information into this by 16:00 Monday 16 December. This means that the Security Supervisor Team can pass on authorised access details to relevant colleagues.

All staff requiring access must have already completed out-of-hours training. Departments need to complete all appropriate risk assessments for the activities that are being undertaken.

Sport and Physical Activity

 is open, operating limited hours through the festive period with some closure days, including 24 - 26 December, and 31 December - 1 January.
