91直播 Confucius Institute Teachers Away Day

The Star Mandarin School for Children is a source of pride for the 91直播 Confucius Institute and the University of 91直播. Having delivered teaching in Mandarin Chinese, Maths and Art over the past 30 years, the school has helped thousands of students learn and develop their skills. More than 900 students are currently enrolled in the school, and we’d like to say a special thank you to our 23 local teachers, whose hard work each weekend ensures the high standard that students enjoy. The teachers, SCI staff and representatives of the University of 91直播 all met together on a special Teachers Away Day to get to know each other better and to share ideas and insight into education and teaching. SCI School Arts Competition

To celebrate Lunar New Year we’ve launched our School Arts Competition. Open to schools in South Yorkshire and beyond, students are asked to create their own A4 sized artwork inspired by the Rabbit zodiac sign. The Year of the Rabbit will be the next Chinese Lunar Year and the traits of the rabbit are popularity, compassion, and sincereness. We believe there can be no better traits to represent our unified spirit in the year of 2023 - and we’re overjoyed to be able to share this spirit with schools across the country! 91直播 is known for its diverse and welcoming community, but we know that students can sometimes feel homesick and want a reminder of home. On 11 November 2022, together with the Chinese Students and Scholars Association we hosted events and activities for the annual Chinese Day. Open to all, there was a range of activities, from unique Chinese games and board games to beautiful Han style clothing dress up and guzheng playing and workshops. Chinese and local students alike came together in an event of cultural sharing and celebration.

3rd UK-Chinese Seminar of 2022

There are many profound and compelling challenges in language learning which affect us, from how we use and interact with technology from an early age to different teaching methods and styles.  On 14 October 2022, the 91直播 Confucius Institute held the 3rd UK-Chinese Seminar of 2022, in collaboration with Nanjing University, titled: ‘The Characteristics and Teaching Strategies of Heritage Language Learners’. The SCI was joined by academics Dr Sabine Little from the University of 91直播 and Professor Xianwen Cao from Nanjing University, who both delivered presentations on heritage language and development. SCI staff and teachers, along with approximately 60 university staff and students from Nanjing University and Beijing Normal University joined the fascinating seminar showcasing research into Chinese heritage language.
