Yannis Kallianos is an anthropologist working on issues of public space, urban infrastructure, waste, everyday life, grassroots politics, socio-political contestation, and imagination. He received his PhD from the University of St Andrews.
Prior to joining the Urban Institute, he worked as a researcher at the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change (CRESC), University of Manchester, as well as at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He was also a Fellow at the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS), and a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg/Centre for Global Cooperation Research, University of Duisburg-Essen.
Yannis joined the Urban Institute to work on the ERC funded project GlobalCORRIDOR led by Dr Jonathan Silver, which examines the relationship between new infrastructure corridors, urbanisation processes, and inequality across different scales and contexts.
