Whilst everyone experiencing homelessness faces significant barriers to finding permanent accommodation, the blog: Home and homelessness in the hostile environment: a view from 91Ö±²¥ highlights some of the additional issues experienced by refugees, most importantly the incredibly short window they are given to find alternative accommodation before being evicted from asylum housing, as well as language barriers and the ongoing impact of traumatic experiences.
The blog makes several suggestions for change, for example increasing the ‘move-on’ period from 28 days to 56 to bring it in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act, or ensuring that large numbers of evictions from Home Office accommodation are staggered to give local authorities and charities a fighting chance to support people to find alternative housing.
