Holly joined the Department of Sociological Studies in 2016 when she began a BA in Politics and Sociology. Holly’s undergraduate dissertation focused on sexual violence against men in the context of war. She went on to complete an MA in Sociology (2020) within the department; her MA dissertation involved a critical discourse analysis of transphobic rhetoric displayed by an online feminist group. Holly’s PhD research focuses on sexual and gender minority survivors of sexual violence and their access to sexual violence support services.

Holly is a member of the Athena Swan self-assessment team within the department. In her role as a PGR representative, Holly has helped to conduct a survey on gender equality within the department and has examined and presented the data from this survey to the team. Holly was involved in a project for Student Voice Week within the department. This project involved consulting with undergraduate students about their experiences within the department. Within this role, Holly conducted focus groups with undergraduate students and delivered a report on the findings.
