David joined the Department in 2014, having come from 91Ö±²¥ Hallam University where he was both a Principal Lecturer in Social Work and Academic Delivery Manager for the Dept. of Social Work, Social Care and Community Studies. Prior to that, David worked for Nottingham City Council as a social worker in a Community Learning Disability Team and as a Practice Learning Co-ordinator.
David qualified as a social worker 1995 and his professional background is in adult-care with a specific focus upon people with learning disabilities. David has also worked in the areas of youth work and youth offending. His academic background is in social work and latterly, in adult education and higher education management.
- Research interests

David has been involved in a number or projects focused upon working with people with learning disabilities. More recently, David has engaged in projects focused upon student learning and have developed a specific interest in constructivist theories of learning and how adults learn in practice.
Postgraduate supervision
David has a continuing interest in supporting professional development in areas focused upon:
- Disability and mental health;
- The personalisation agenda;
- Mental Capacity and Human Rights;
- Empowering and strengths based theories of intervention;
- Learning disabilities practice and person centred models.
Unpublished research
- 1997 - Involved in research regarding the efficacy of using an Essential Lifestyle Planning approach when assessing people with learning disabilities.
- 1997/8 - Evaluating the success of innovations in day care provision in Rushcliffe.
- 2010/11- small scale project considering the efficacy of experiential learning within placement activity for students on the 1st year of the combined award at 91Ö±²¥ Hallam University.
- 2011- Funded project revisiting the year one students above in their final year placements to examine the impact of the learning environment experienced on the Experiential Placement.
