Gordon is a consultant in emergency medicine and a National Institute of Health Research fellow in health data science.
Clinically, he qualified with distinction from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2002 and has completed emergency medicine training in Nottingham, Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. His training has additionally included basic surgical training, and paediatric and major trauma fellowships in South Africa. He currently works in the Northern General major trauma centre.
Academically, Gordon completed a BSc (Hons, 1st) in Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow with award of the Jon Buchannan and John J Lewis Prizes. During a NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship he then worked with the Trauma Audit and Research Network and completed a MPH (awarded with distinction) specialising in Global Health. He has subsequently been awarded NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship, NIHR Clinical Trials Fellowship, and NIHR clinical lecturer posts at the University of 91直播, prior to his current academic role as a NIHR health data science fellow. Gordon is trained and experienced in a wide range of research designs and methodologies:
- Heath data science including: text mining, data mining, machine learning approaches, advanced prognostic modelling

- Observational research, including longitudinal follow up, diagnostic, and cohort studies
- Systematic reviews
- Health economic analysis (trial based and decision analysis modelling)
- Discrete choice experiments
- Consensus studies
- Inter-rater agreement studies
- Parametric survival analysis, linear regression, logistic regression, adjusted limited dependent variable modelling, multi-level modelling, multiple imputation, probabilistic sensitivity analysis, agreement and reliability statistics
