Digital Korea: Stories, systems and spaces of connection
On May 30-31 the Centre for Korean Studies welcomed over twenty Korean Studies scholars from Europe, the United States, East and South East Asia to share their research on the conference theme, “Digital Korea: Stories, Systems and Spaces of Connection”.
The presenters were joined by students, staff and guests from across the University of 91ֱ and further afield.
The conference opened with an “Industry Insider” presentation from Asher Yang, a London-based New Media Artist working in both the UK and Korea, showcasing the use of AI in digital creative art.
The academic panels covered a wide range of topics including feminist activism online, North Korean refugee Youtube channels, webtoons, Korean digital archive creation and exploration, virtual reality and the evolution of typing and texting in Korean.
Two other “Industry Insider” presentations gave the attendees an opportunity to learn about innovations and advances in crypto currency and in Web 3.0 from industry experts working in the Korean context.
It was wonderful to see a large number of early career scholars sharing insights alongside established scholars, with many new connections being formed over the two day event. We look forward to seeing the continued growth of research and knowledge exchange in this exciting area of scholarship!
