Prestigious gender-equality award for physics

The Department of Physics has been presented with the prestigious Juno Champion award by the Institute of Physics in recognition of its commitment to addressing gender equality.

The Department of Physics has been given the prestigious Juno Champion status in recognition of its commitment to addressing gender equality.

The accolade has been awarded by the Institute of Physics and is the equivalent of Athena Swan Silver award for physics and astronomy.

The department previously held the Juno Practitioner Award. The Champion title is the highest that can be awarded under .

Professor Pieter Kok, the Department鈥檚 Deputy Director of One University, said: 鈥淭his is fantastic news for the department and is testament to the hard work of my colleagues.

鈥淭he Champion award recognises that we are on our way to make positive changes towards gender equality and diversity and inclusion in general.鈥

Project Juno is aimed specifically at university physics departments and schools of physics, and other related organisations and aims to enable organisations to work towards developing an equitable working culture in which all students and staff can achieve their full potential.
