Background to the programme and subject area It is important that leaders are equipped with the relevant competency, knowledge and skill sets in order to create real competitive advantage to organisations. Throughout the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Strategic Leadership programme, learners will develop skills and knowledge in the broad areas of strategy, innovation and change, finance for decision making, enterprise and risk. The Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Strategic Leadership is a part-time executive and professional education programme specifically designed for learners in employment. Learners take the programme as a qualification element linked to the Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship. Programme structure and regulations The programme consists of seven core modules. In the first year of study, learners will take three 20 credit modules and one 10 credit modules. Learners will build on the knowledge and skills developed during their first year of study in year two in which learners will take two 20 credit modules and one 10 credit module. Students will usually undertake four days of block teaching followed by a half-day tutorial. There will then be a period of approximately 6-8 weeks directed study. The two Developing Personal and Professional Practice modules will each be delivered in a block of two days with a further one and a half days teaching later in the year. A learner who has been awarded one hundred and twenty credits will be eligible for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Strategic Leadership. Student development over the course of study Learners will study via study blocks and modules have been scheduled across the two years of study to support the development of knowledge and skills. Each module is designed to incorporate both formative and summative assessment to support the achievement of the programme-level aims and learning outcomes. Learners will have the opportunity to discuss their performance with the module leaders during the teaching blocks and will also have the opportunity to contact module leaders through email, telephone and video call software between teaching blocks. In order to provide academic and pastoral support, all learners will be assigned a Personal Tutor who they will be able to contact throughout their period of study.
