Member of the Dean's List, class of 2022

Zaid won his place on the Dean’s List for his tenacity, drive and enthusiastic approach to both improving his employability and when supporting others around him.

Upskilling for professional growth

Zaid took on a huge number of opportunities to increase his professional skills and work experience, from completing a company project to completing numerous online courses in supply chain management, purchasing and public speaking to complement his learnings from his degree programme.

Zaid took advantage of the opportunities provided by the University,  joining the University eMentoring scheme as a mentee to gain valuable insight from alumni, and seeking the counsel of a Careers Advisor at the Employability Hub to improve his CV.

He was successful in obtaining one of only two company projects available on the topic of logistics and supply chain management, which enabled him to gain industry exposure and bridge the gap between his theoretical learning and real-world business scenarios. He also held a part-time job as a Patient Service Assistant with the National Health Service (NHS) alongside his studies.

Positive societal impact

Zaid is a fantastic role model who continuously goes out of his way to support others. He volunteered with the Mafiq Foundation’s muslim youth development programme as a virtual mentor in public speaking and leadership. He was also an active member of the Indian Society, Management Society, and University Islamic Circle.

Zaid committed to being a Student Ambassador and an Academic Representative throughout his studies. To support his fellow students, he moderated a WhatsApp group encouraging information exchange about employment and learning opportunities between himself and fellow students.

While volunteering as a Crookes Retail Volunteer at St Luke’s Hospice Charity for 3 hours each Saturday, Zaid helped make supply chain improvements by sharing learnings from his degree. He provided ad hoc voluntary support with ‘91Ö±²¥ DocFest’ international documentary festival, Treasure Hunting for Sustainability, and also within the NHS. In the University Table Tennis team, Zaid shared techniques with fellow students, having been a state-level player in his home country.

The future for Zaid

After completing his masters degree, Zaid successfully secured a role as Regional Buyer for Jaguar Land Rover.
