Raising and giving
Ciara’s strides in charitable work with the Raising and Giving (RAG) Society led her and her team to be nominated for Chair of the Year and Most Improved Committee in the 91Ö±²¥ University Activities Awards. She represented the University at the National RAG conference in Southampton, doubled the number of volunteer RAG Reps and increased event participation by 50% during her time as Chair.
She was also the Charities and Inclusions Officer of the Management Society and completed two ‘Baby Bummit’ hitchhikes to fundraise for the charities Roundabout, Snowdrop and Zest.
Going the extra mile
Ciara gained work experience as a part-time employee at Snow + Rock as well as the Students’ Union outlet, New Leaf.
Ciara moved to Nottingham to complete a placement year as a Buying Assistant for Boots UK. During her time at Boots, she went beyond what was expected of her. She took part in a mascot race for Children in Need, organised an obstacle run for Boots’ annual charity day known as 'Benny Day', and climbed Mount Snowdon to fundraise for their Benevolent Fund. She volunteered as a ‘buddy’ on Boots’ peer-mentoring scheme where she supported a colleague to become more confident in their leadership skills.
After her placement, Ciara went on to become a Boots UK Year in Industry Ambassador and shared her valuable experiences with future placement students.
Representing success
Ciara’s engagement with the University extends beyond her employability and charitable achievements. As a member of the Lacrosse 2nd Team Squad, she regularly played in matches, took part in the annual tournament, and led and produced the team’s first promotional video for Varsity.
As an active member of the Croquet team, she represented the University in the 2018 National Student Championships, achieving a global ranking for competing in the sport.
