Civil engineering courses
Options for engineering with architecture
We're proud of our unique, multi-disciplinary and innovative courses that span the disciplines of engineering and architecture, providing students with the skills to design and engineer buildings.
The four degree programmes provide you with the skills to work in teams to produce great architecture. However, they differ in the roles they will train you for.
- Architectural engineering covers all the engineering disciplines associated with buildings and their infrastructure, alongside an appreciation of architecture. The combination of these skills will enable you develop a career engineering high quality buildings so they have a minimal impact on the environment. This course has been honoured by the Royal Academy of Engineering who awarded us the title of "Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design".
- Structural engineering and architecture focuses particularly on integrating these two disciplines making you capable of appreciating competing considerations, while able to balance the professional opinion of both disciplines. This allows you to follow a career as either a structural engineer or an architect.
Spend time in industry
We're proud of our strong links with industry. The experience and expertise of leading consultants, contractors and specialist engineers feed directly into your degree. If you choose the option of a Industrial Placement Year, you'll spend a year working in a civil or structural engineering company. You'll also be supported by the Faculty of Engineering’s Industrial Placement Year team.
