Research Project: Predicting Explosive Damage Using Fractal Fracture Mechanics
This project will piece together two emerging strengths in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of 91Ö±²¥: blast load characterisation (led in this project by Dr Rigby) and fracture mechanics (led by Prof Susmel).
The overall aim is to develop a means for predicting the damage pattern arising from a high explosive blast. This will be achieved by developing analytical solutions using fractal fracture mechanics under a known blast load distribution.
