Profile

After graduating in General and Chemical Engineering, Isabel is currently pursuing a PhD in the EPSRC’s Centre for Doctoral Training in Water Infrastructure and Resilience (WIRe CDT), researching biologically stable drinking water in the UK. The project is sponsored by the UK Water Industry Research (UKWIR) and aims to identify the best practices for preventing bacterial growth throughout the distribution system.

Qualifications

MSc General Engineering, Ecole Centrale de Nantes

BSc Chemical Engineering, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro

Research interests

Research Project Title: Achieving biologically stable water in the UK

Achieving biological stability is crucial for water utilities to meet regulatory requirements, as uncontrolled regrowth of microorganisms may have aesthetic and health consequences for consumers and generate significant cost for water utilities.

My project aims to better understand and assess biological stability from treatment to tap, in order to inform key water treatment and distribution practices that can guarantee aesthetically pleasing, safe drinking water.
