Andrea Pasqua is a Research Associate in Offshore Geohazards. He obtained his PhD at Politecnico di Torino after three years of study. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he continued his tenure at Politecnico di Torino for an additional year, contributing to Italy's recovery and resilience plan whose focus was on debris flows and their impact on local communities.
His PhD research involved the study of debris flows and their impact on mitigation structures using continuum numerical models. He personally implemented critical components of a continuum 3D CFD model and a depth-averaged model. This allowed for a comprehensive exploration of landslide dynamics, particularly in understanding the interaction between landslides and structures for risk mitigation purposes. Additionally, he conducted extensive investigations into rheological laws, with a keen focus on granular rheologies, to elucidate their role in landslide behaviour across various frameworks.
This immersive research experience not only refined his programming skills in object-oriented languages but also deepened his understanding of mathematical concepts and rheological laws essential for comprehending landslide phenomena. Moreover, he developed proficiency in Java and regularly utilise MATLAB or Python for data visualisation and analysis in his academic endeavours.
