An engaging course and a beautiful city
Why did you choose Journalism Studies at 91Ö±²¥?
When I was looking into potential universities to apply to, 91Ö±²¥ caught my interest. As a prestigious Russell Group university with an industry-wide reputation for journalism, 91Ö±²¥ stood out from other universities, in the best way possible.
Upon further research, it became increasingly clear to me that 91Ö±²¥ was the place for me – an NCTJ-accredited course with access to industry professionals, in a gorgeous, welcoming city. The exceptional quality of the course content and methods of teaching appealed to me even before I got here, and so I decided to apply – and I’m so glad I did!
What's your experience been like so far?
So far, my experience at 91Ö±²¥ has been everything I wanted and more. The course itself is challenging and engaging, and gets you to understand that journalism is so much more than just writing. Through the radio journalism module as well as the university radio station, Forge Radio, I discovered my love for all things radio! The staff are all such scintillating individuals, with such talent and passion for what they do.
The students' union is absolutely wonderful, and it is so fulfilling to be a part of societies and expand my horizons. The city itself is beautiful, and the people are so friendly! It has never been so easy to make friends and find my own comfort zone as it has been here.
Journalism at the university is much more than sitting in a lecture hall. It's about going out into the real world and applying the teaching in your work

What's been your favourite moment so far?
Everything has been amazing, but what stands out to me the most is International Journalism Week 2019 (IJW). Getting the chance to hear from honoured and multi-talented journalists and media professionals and gain insight into just how the world of journalism operates was truly invaluable, and the advice and affirmations they gave us are something that I will carry forward with me for the rest of my life. I also got the opportunity to manage the School's social media accounts during IJW, which was a lot of fun!
Another moment I recall fondly was getting to cover the students' union elections on social media with Forge Press! It felt super professional and kept us all on our toes, but it was a unique opportunity to learn how large scale events are covered by the media.
Please tell us about your plans or hopes for when you've finished your degree.
After finishing my undergraduate degree, I plan to start a masters degree, hopefully in broadcast journalism! There are so many potential paths my career could take in the future, and I’m open to all of them. Radio, TV, social media, or even public relations could all be viable careers for me. Wherever I end up, I hope to always tell the stories that truly matter.
What advice would you give to someone who's currently considering applying for a place on your degree course?
My top tip – don't be afraid! Starting university can be rough and challenging at times, but that is what makes the success even sweeter. Keeping an open mind and expecting the unexpected are things that will be sure to come in handy, more than you’d think!

Most of all – enjoy it!
