Julie Bradley, Operations Manager reflects on the importance of community at the School of Law and the role of the student voice in making the School a welcoming place for all.
Julie Bradley, Operations Manager in the School of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Julie joined the School of Law with a background in finance and continued on this path for a number of years before moving to her current role of Operations Manager.
During her time at the School of Law, Julie has been a driving force and facilitator behind many of the School鈥檚 initiatives contributing to the One University vision and developing a sense of belonging for staff and students.
Julie has also led the School鈥檚 Green Impact Team to successive Platinum Awards, delivering excellent outcomes from a voluntary endeavour. She has implemented a variety of initiatives aimed at improving the School鈥檚 environmental and sustainability practices as well as enhancing staff wellbeing, ranging from academic textbook recycling schemes to the creation of a wellbeing garden to local community initiatives, with many activities continuing over a period of several years.
Julie reflects on the sense of community at the School and the role of the student voice in making the School a welcoming place for all:
鈥淚 think it鈥檚 so important that we consider sustainability in all that we do; I really believe that small actions can go on to have a big impact. We know that with some of the initiatives implemented in the School of Law, colleagues have taken those ideas home and made it work for them on a smaller scale and that is so wonderful to see. I think this also adds to the sense of community within the School, we鈥檙e all working towards the same goal and doing it in a way that works for each of us.
鈥淓nsuring that all feel welcomed at the School is incredibly important, this was one of the driving goals when redesigning our Postgraduate Research (PGR) space. We wanted this to be a space that was inclusive and welcoming for all, and we worked closely with our PGRs to understand what they needed from this space, their voices in this project were essential.
鈥淲e鈥檝e also created a quiet room in the School, inspired by the quiet room at the Students鈥 Union, and it's a space for our students if they need to take a moment. We considered equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the design process to add to the student experience for our neurodiverse students.
鈥淭he School of Law is a place where you鈥檙e encouraged to develop and grow, and your voice is always heard. I鈥檝e had the opportunity to suggest and implement new projects and initiatives, and it's heartening to see these come to fruition and hopefully positively impact our student community.鈥
