Decarbonising industry with hydrogen
Hydrogen is a clean fuel that can heat our homes, power industry and transport. We have the facilities and expertise to enable the deployment of a UK hydrogen economy.
Production of low-carbon hydrogen is one of the key elements of the Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution published by the UK government in 2020. The UK is aiming for 5 GW of low-carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030, benefiting around 8,000 green jobs. Low/zero carbon hydrogen could be used as a clean fuel and heat for residential, transport and industrial sectors.
There has been a bottleneck in hydrogen utilisation research in the UK due to a lack of pilot-scale testing facilities. The specialist hydrogen R&D facilities at the University of 91Ö±²¥, can alleviate this bottleneck by enabling the rapid transition of fundamental research into market-ready products.
The Translational Energy Research Centre
The Translational Energy Research Centre at the University of 91Ö±²¥ is one of the largest research and development facilities in Europe for zero-carbon energy, hydrogen, bioenergy, and CCUS. The Centre accommodates all the facilities needed to efficiently demonstrate the production and utilisation of low/zero carbon hydrogen at semi-industrial scale.
