Students get careers advice from economics alumni

Over 30 economics students came to the Economics Speed Networking event on 19 February and in small groups had around 15 minutes to ask questions about their career and advice from sectors they had worked in.

The economics alumni volunteered their time to participate in the event, coming from around 91Ö±²¥ but also from Manchester and London.

They all had different roles and were from different sectors and had a range of experiences from early career to experienced managers. The alumni that shared their experiences were:

  • Gordon Pal, Economic Adviser,
  • Emily Moss, Evidence-Based Medicine Researcher,
  • Sam Gilbert, Research Executive,
  • Phil Harrold, Former Partner,
  • Joanna Dixon, Credit Support Officer,
  • Gemma Marceniuk, Health Economist,
  • Richard Hughes, Investment Manager,

The event not only helped students with careers advice, but it also gave them an introduction to networking. Claire Conway from the University's Careers Service gave an overview of how networking can be an effective skill to help build connections and relationships in an informal way.
