Third Year Abroad: 'My languages have really taken off"

Aisling Redmond (BA French with Dutch) looks back on her Third Year abroad in the Netherlands.

A city in Holland.

"So today marks the end of my Year Abroad. It's been such a great adventure and I've had the most wonderful time, and can't quite believe how quickly it's gone by. I had to say goodbye to the amazing team of people who I've been working with for this semester in the Netherlands and it's safe to say they will all be greatly missed. They are such a wonderful group of people who I am proud to call my friends and I miss them all already.

I’ve learnt so many new things; my languages have really taken off; I've been to so many cool new places; made incredible new friends for life; taught lots of very clever children; and had such a happy year!

I'm definitely sad that it's all over, but I am also quite excited to come home! Thanks to everyone who helped me through my Year Abroad, both in France and the Netherlands, I love and cherish you all!"

The Dutch Year Abroad offers three options:

  • University study period
  • Teaching placement
  • Work placement with a business of a not-for-profit organisation
