- Profile
-
I am an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology with a strong interest in research especially in the area of head and neck potentially malignant lesions. I was appointed in 2020 and previous to this worked as a DCT in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as completing my DFT in 2017/2018 following graduation in 2017.
During my undergraduate training I was involved in extensive laboratory base research investigating the role of CALML3 in oral squamous cell carcinoma. I presented my research findings at the BSODR 2015 meeting and as a consequence of winning the Junior Colgate prize went on to present this work at the IADR 2016 meeting. Since graduation have also participated in clinical research especially in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials.
In my current post I am working towards post graduate certificates in both medical education and clinical research methods. Additionally, I am developing, alongside senior scientists and clinical academics in the department, a clinical research protocol. The theme of the research is the investigation of novel sources of biomarkers for the diagnosis and risk stratification of head and neck potentially malignant lesions.

-
I previously co-ordinated dental core trainee teaching at 91Ö±²¥ Teaching Hospitals and still actively provide postgraduate teaching in oral pathology for STH DCTs and StR from other specialities. Furthermore, I am involved in teaching oral pathology to the undergraduate dental students at the University of 91Ö±²¥.
- Professional activities and memberships
-
I am a member of BAOMS, BSOMP, the Pathological Society and the European Pathological Society. In addition to my academic responsibilities I am a trainee in oral and maxillofacial pathology and work within the diagnostic histopathology service. In this role I engage in the macroscopic and microscopic examination and diagnosis of both routine oral biopsies and complex head and neck resection cases.
