Profile

I joined the School of Clinical Dentistry in 2016 as a Research Associate. Since then I have been involved in a range of projects aimed at understanding people’s subjective experiences of various aspects of their oral health and dental care.

Previous to this I completed a PhD in Sociological Studies at the University of 91Ö±²¥ (2016), exploring two generations of mothers’ experiences of household work over the life course.

Research interests

My main research interests are social identities over the life course; family and intergenerational relationships; the sociology of health and illness; and everyday social practices. My work uses sociological concepts such as identity, embodiment and connectedness to analyse narratives of lived experience.

I am interested in using a practice theory approach to develop an understanding of the everyday family practices that impact on oral health.

Since joining the School of Clinical Dentistry, I have worked on the following projects as a qualitative researcher:

  • Significance of the Mouth in Older Age, funded by GlaxoSmithKline (completed)
  • Patient Perceptions of Online Information about Orthognathic Surgery, funded by British Orthodontic Society (completed)
  • FiCTION Trial (Filling Children’s Teeth: Indicated Or Not), funded by NIHR (ongoing)
  • MAGIC Trial (Melatonin for Anxiety prior to General anaesthesia In Children), funded by NIHR (ongoing)

I am a co-investigator on the following projects

  • Impact of Orthodontic Appliances Questionnaire, funded by British Orthodontic Society (ongoing)
  • Patient Experiences of Adapting to Life Following Orthognathic Surgery for Facial Asymmetry, funded by British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ongoing)
