- Profile
-
Mr Scott graduated from the University of 91Ö±²¥ in the summer of 2007, commissioning through Royal Military Academy Sandhurst later that year. He was immediately posted abroad, completing his VT and early clinical training in British Forces Germany and further afield. He has served in broad training, management, liaison, and clinical roles worldwide. These have included as a General Dental Practitioner, SHO in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, an MSc in Restorative Dentistry, Nurse and FD trainer, liaison to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and a Regional Senior Dental Officer.
Returning to 91Ö±²¥ University to take up a post as an Academic Clinical Fellow in the Restorative Department, he enjoys postgraduate and undergraduate teaching. He has interests in Periodontology, Implantology and Prosthodontics, academic interests in Ehlers Danlos and translational research interests in the application of AI in Dental Diagnostics. This is all whilst maintaining a commission in the Army Reserve.
- Research interests
-
Mr Scott’s research focuses on developing integrated AI computing systems to assist clinicians in diagnosing and maintaining periodontal disease. His current main effort focuses on monitoring periodontal disease, collaborating with and the radiographic departments of 91Ö±²¥ Hospital Trusts. He has compiled the IMPL-AI-NT database, one of the world's largest databases of implant-focused radiographs.
Monitoring periodontal tissue loss is complex and largely still performed through rudimentary measurement that has been proven to have poor inter and even intra-examiner accuracy. The project aims to provide a digital solution to assist the patient's dental team in locating and accurately reviewing any change in the radiographic appearance of periodontal tissue loss.
