The Smile Squad

The School of Clinical Dentistry has a team of student volunteers called the Smile Squad who work with the 91Ö±²¥ University Dental Students’ Society and 91Ö±²¥â€™s Oral Health Promotion team to deliver talks to schools and public engagement events.

The Smile Squad

The Smile Squad respond to requests from local nurseries and schools to run classroom-based lessons and assemblies. The Smile Squad was established in 2016 and since then the volunteers have spoken to over 500 children. The Smile Squad are also involved in the annual Students’ Union Teddy Bear Hospital event and local activities for Smile Month.

In 2019 the School of Clinical Dentistry was awarded an Alumni Fund Departmental Grant to support the work of the Smile Squad by purchasing child-friendly resources to make their talks even more interactive and fun. A big thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends who made this award possible.
