A friend directed me towards the course and as I didn’t have the correct A Levels
What drew you to apply and accept a place on the Foundation Year (FY)?
A friend directed me towards the course and as I didn’t have the correct A-levels, the Foundation Year provided me with a great way to equip myself with the adequate skills needed to study Chemical Engineering.
What was your educational background before and what were the main concerns you had before embarking on the course?
I had A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics but didn’t have one in Maths, therefore my main concern was that I’d struggle with the Maths, but also that I didn’t know what to expect from the engineering aspect of the Foundation Year.
How did FY help to prepare you for Year 1 study and beyond?
It not only provided me with the necessary Maths skills, but the engineering skills acquired have also helped me immensely on the course.
What were the big learning points for you during your FY?
How to write a lab report to a good standard.
What do you enjoy most about your current degree programme?
The variation between modules.
What are your favourite things about studying in 91Ö±²¥?
The Students’ Union is great, and I’ve enjoyed being part of a sports society.
What has the wider University offered you in terms of support and student community?
Academic and personal support is readily available, and it’s good to use the support in place if needed. Societies are a great way to immerse yourself socially.
How have you overcome challenges so far and what would be your advice to a prospective Foundation Year student?
The workload in Year 1 and 2 is very heavy, so try to keep on top of things during the Foundation Year so you are in the correct mindset going into Year 1 of the course.
What are your career aspirations after your degree?
I’m unsure, to be honest, but the energy industry and also the environmental industry interests me quite a lot.
