Dr Caroline Taylor from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering was awarded the Young Investigator award, on the 20th June at the UKSB 2023 conference at Ulster University, Belfast. Caroline was the recipient of the Larry Hench Young Investigators prize.
The Larry Hench Young Investigators Award is given to a promising young research scientist in recognition of outstanding and innovative contributions in a selected field of biomaterials research, and in remembrance of such a key figure of this field, Prof Larry Hench (1938-2015). Caroline was given the award not only due to her impressive research background at the stage of her career, but her energy and drive to support the greater biomaterials and STEM communities as a whole. She was awarded a certificate, £500 and a commemorative Larry Hench memorial ceramic award.
Speaking about her award Caroline said 'I am honoured to be awarded the UKSB Larry Hench award for my research and contributions to the biomaterials community. I am passionate about supporting other early researchers in the field and inspiring young girls into STEM careers. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in my career so far, in particular to Professor John W. Haycock, Professor Fred Claeyssens, Professor Ipsita Roy, Professor Serena Cussen, everyone in the Biomaterials and Tissue engineering group and everyone in the department of Materials Science and Engineering'.
