- Profile
-
Moein is a Research Associate at the South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre (SYSC) and is affiliated with the Management School and Energy Institute at the University of 91Ö±²¥. His current research lies in the exploration of life cycle assessment and supply chain innovation of different energy systems, including heat pumps, renewable-based power plants, and hydrogen production. The primary objective of his work is to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impacts, aiming for a sustainable supply chain that aligns with the net zero goal in the South Yorkshire region and the wider UK.
Moein completed his PhD at the University of Florence, Department of Industrial Engineering, in 2022. His doctoral research centred around the comprehensive analysis of energy systems, specifically geothermal power plants, considering various aspects such as energy, exergy, exergo-economic, and exergo-environmental considerations. His research encompassed multiple case studies conducted across Europe. Funding for Moein's doctoral project was provided by GECO and GEOENVI, both of which were associated with the Horizon 2020 program. He has extensive experience in modelling various energy systems and assessing them from energetic, exegetic, economic, and environmental views.

Projects
Life cycle supply chain assessment of different heat pump technologies
The primary focus of this project was to assess the environmental impact of heat pumps by analysing different supply chain scenarios. The objective was to compare and identify the most sustainable solution for the United Kingdom.
Life cycle supply chain assessment of different hydrogen production technologies
The objective of this project is to perform a life cycle assessment of hydrogen production technologies to generate green hydrogen. The study will focus on developing various supply chain scenarios based on the hydrogen market and conditions in the United Kingdom.
Life cycle assessment of renewable-based power plants
The main concentration of this project is environmental impact evaluations of the three combined renewable-based power plants applying geothermal, solar, and wind as energy sources.
Energy, exergy, economic and environmental (4E) analyses of a geothermal power plant with NCGs reinjection
This project was part of the Horizon 2020 program, and it involved analysing a geothermal power plant that incorporated the complete reinjection of non-condensable gases. The findings of this research were published in the journal Energy in 2022.
Energy, exergy, and economic analyses of a novel biomass-based multigeneration system integrated with multi-effect distillation, electrodialysis, and LNG tank
The study examined a combined power cycle that consisted of a biomass gasifier, a CO2 cycle, a cooling system, multi-effect distillation (MED), and electrodialysis. The findings of this research were published in the journal Desalination in 2022.
