Our research explores the journey through care, the barriers care leavers face in accessing university, and the support that helps them succeed.

234 care-experienced students shared their experiences of care and their perspectives on university life. Our findings have been used to produce recommendations and resources aimed at Government and Policy Makers, Local Authorities, and Higher Education providers.

Findings

Pathways to University from Care: Findings Report 1

Zara's journey from the care system to university.

Findings Report 1 explores the experiences of care leavers making the transition to university and shares 15 recommendations for universities. The recommendations have been widely adopted by the sector and have been championed by the Office for Students, UCAS, NNECL and the Care Leaver Covenant.

The Journey Through Care: Findings Report 2

Testimonies from students who have been through the care experience.

Findings Report 2 shares the earlier experiences of the same cohort of participants. This report focuses on different aspects of being 'in care' and on young people's experiences of leaving care. Recommendations for Local Authorities and Central Government are included at the end of the report.
