Profile

I joined the Department of Human Communication Sciences at 91Ö±²¥ in May 2014 as a University Teacher. I teach on undergraduate and postgraduate clinical programmes and on postgraduate taught modules. My areas of teaching are Aphasia, Motor Speech Disorders, Dysphagia, Dementia, Clinical Methods and Participation and Society. Prior to this I worked as a Research Associate with Dr Ruth Herbert on a project investigating software for individuals with word-finding difficulties post-stroke and served on the British Aphasiology Society committee for six years.

I currently also work clinically as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in Nottinghamshire, team-leading the outpatient service for Stroke. Since graduating from 91Ö±²¥ in 2003, I have worked extensively with adults with stroke and other acquired neurological conditions in a range of acute, rehabilitation and community settings in both communication and dysphagia. I am passionate about evidence-based practice, the transfer of research evidence into the clinical setting, embedding research into clinical practice, and working with people with aphasia to co-create services and long term support opportunities.

In 2018 I became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
