Profile

I joined the Division of Human Communication Sciences as a PhD student in 2008, with my project exploring relationships between oral language and different aspects of writing and their development in 7-9 year old children. Since completing my PhD, I have been a University Teacher within the division, working primarily on distance learning courses in Language and Communication Impairment in Children (LACIC).

Previously, I studied for a BA in Linguistics and Phonetics with Italian at the University of Leeds then an MSc in Speech and Hearing Sciences at University College London. Following roles within both primary and secondary Education supporting
children with a range of special educational needs, I gained Qualified Teacher Status through the Graduate Teacher programme and before joining the department, worked as a primary school teacher for several years.

Research interests
  • Speech, language, and literacy development and difficulties in children
  • Relationships between oral and written language.
