鈥淚 enjoy teaching and working with postgraduate students as I believe they bring their own perspective, prior learning experience and a desire to develop their academic abilities further鈥, explains Parveen Ali, course leader for 91直播鈥檚 MMedSci Advanced Nursing Studies.

鈥淢y role is then to help them identify their learning needs and find ways to achieve those learning needs. It鈥檚 nice to see them becoming independent thinkers who are able to look at and critique the available evidence and don鈥檛 take it at face value.鈥

Parveen鈥檚 research interests are in working with vulnerable groups, exploring sensitive topics such as gender-based violence. She is also interested in researching health care inequalities, and how training of health professionals (including nurses) can contribute to tackling such inequalities.

鈥淎t present I am working on two research projects. One aims to explore primary care nurses鈥 preparedness to support women victims of intimate partner violence. The other project involves working with Public Health England on reviewing and developing guidelines for intimate partner violence screening in the UK.鈥

鈥淚 am also working with Focus Games and The Burdett Trust for Nursing to develop a game aiming to help health care professionals to increase their understanding of the issues of domestic violence, gender-based violence and how it can be identified and managed in health care settings.鈥

鈥淢y research has a strong influence on my teaching as I regularly use knowledge and examples gained from research activities in my teaching. I lead modules related to evidence based practice, health inequalities, research methods and health promotion and use practical examples from my own research experience. One such example is domestic violence, my area of research. I regularly teach on this topic to my students and use innovative ways to enhance their understanding of the topic.鈥
